The Colours of Silver Star – Brave Enough for Colour

The colours of Silver Star are not accidental, they are part of our community’s cultural infrastructure.
The painted homes, in particular on the Knoll and throughout the Village are a defining part of Silver Star’s identity. They signal warmth in winter, joy & exuberance in contrast to snow, and contribute to a sense of place and pride of ownership that people remember long after they leave. Colour here isn’t decoration, it is storytelling!
This Après Design session explores how exterior colour palettes shape the vibe of a mountain community, influence perception and property value, and contribute to the unique draw of Silver Star Mountain Resort as a destination.
In our expert led conversation we’ll discuss:
- Why colour works differently on a mountain: bright white snow cover, and dark forest green backdrops, shifting light, and seasonal extremes
- Colour frequency & rhythm: how often bold colours should appear, and where restraint matters just as much as expression
- Colour theory in alpine environments: contrast vs harmony, saturation vs softness, and creating a delightful palette that does not contribute to visual fatigue
- Village cohesion vs individual expression: how to stand out without breaking the collective aesthetic
- Common mistakes: trendy palettes that age poorly, colours that disappear in winter, and over-dark exteriors that disappear into the landscape in the summer
As part of the session, we’ll explore some especially curated Silver Star-inspired exterior paint palettes ranging from classic alpine tones to modern mountain interpretations, and discuss how homeowners can make confident, context-aware colour decisions for exterior renovations or interior repaints and art selections.
Beyond colour and character, this session will discuss creative colour in real-world performance by demystifying exterior paint specification. What actually matters when your painter starts asking questions, and why not all paints are created equal, especially in a high-altitude, freeze–thaw, UV-intense mountain environment like Silver Star.
Key considerations include:
- Paint type & formulation for alpine conditions
- Durability, washability, and fade resistance over time
- Why premium products outperform in lifecycle cost, not just upfront price
- Where corners are commonly cut—and how to spot it before it’s too late
Most importantly, we’ll reframe painting as a labour-dominant investment. On exterior projects, labour far outweighs material cost which means the wrong paint choice doesn’t just age poorly, it multiplies future expense. Getting it right the first time is both a design and operational win.
For property managers, this conversation is especially relevant. Thoughtful colour selection paired with proper paint specification reduces maintenance cycles, minimizes disruption to guests and owners, and protects asset value across multiple seasons. It’s about fewer repaints, fewer complaints, and smarter long-term planning.
Whether you’re repainting a single home or overseeing multiple properties on the mountain, this session will equip you with the language, criteria, and confidence to make informed, future-proof decisions.
